"My home is always there, in the heaven's vault..." ~Mikhail Lermontov
The parlor at the Tarkhany estate of famous Russian author & poet, Mikhail Lermontov.
Thanks for all your comments on my turkey/Thanksgiving Day shot. It was nice to see at the end of a horrific day during which my pocketbook with all my documents [everything imaginable] was stolen. Spent hours at the police station where the police convinced me to report it as lost rather than stolen - long story.
The good news is that I received a call that someone found my bag & although the money & some other things were gone, thankfully, my passport & other important documents have been returned.
Hope those who celebrated had a wonderful holiday & are enjoying the weekend. (11.26.2011)

on November 26, 2011What a lovely place, and I'm so happy that your bag was found. That is so invasive and devastating - I've had that happen to me too, but luckily like you - I did get my passport and driver's license back, but credit cards & cash were missing. Also, it's neat to see you in the mirror of this shot as you snap the photo.

on November 26, 2011Fabulous interior shot. SO sorry your purse got stolen, but it is good you found the passport etc....
Several years ago while visiting my now X-s family in El Paso, TX we went into Juarez Mexico to visit the graves of some of his mother's family (his mom lived with us at that time) After that, they said I needed to see a true Mercado. While we were there someone broke into our van and took all of our luggage, etc. (I had left the diaper bag in the van, but luckily they left a diaper and I was able to change El Jay who was 23-months old. But his shot record was in it and when we switched pediatricians a few months later, I got scolded for no longer having his shot record....) Any way, I had asked if we could unload the van before we went into Mexico and leave everything at a relatives house. I was laughed at and called a silly Gringa, so I backed down.... but I did remove my mother-in-laws passport and documentation (she was born in Mexico, but lived most of her adult life in the USA and became a citizen, but she does not speak English) from her suitcase and had it with me in my purse. I was grateful later that I did that. For me the experience was very traumatic. My X's family couldn't understand why I was so upset and cried--they said a lot of unkind things about me in Spanish on that trip--it does help to know a few key words..... one thing that was stolen was my journal. I was on the last few pages and it recorded over a year of my life. The X's uncle said that we could not recover clothes or anything else, but that they would throw away the journal and that he would ask around for it. Nothing more was said. The X made several more trips to El Paso without me. The marraige ended and two-years ago while going thru boxes I had packed two years before there it was. The missing journal.
