Project RuSu 365

Not always so successful or interesting, & not always daily, though certainly a reflection of our daily lives - more like pick of the day. Our goal - to share our world and improve our skills. Thanks to all the members of the SmugMug Daily Community for your support and input. Feel free to leave feedback by clicking on 'Add Comment' below. We look forward to hearing your thoughts. The photo of the day will always be in first position. Thank you for looking. - Rustem Safronov & Susan Gilman a.k.a. RuSu. This gallery was started on October 26, 2010.

• Cocktails anyone? Bartender mixing drinks in Madrid's Mercado San Miguel. (9.28.2011)
• Cherub stool in Madrid's Cathedral de Santa María la Real de la Almudena. (9.27.2011)
Missing our Daily community, but too busy and/or tired to actively participate. Greetings to all!
• Open heart surgery being performed at the Federal Heart Center. (Penza, Russia) (9.21.2011)
• Photos on the wall in café Jean-Paul. (Penza, Russia) (9.20.2011)
We're off to sunny [hopefully] Spain tomorrow, so not sure how much you'll see of us over the next two weeks. Seems we're never as good about posting as we hope to be & not nearly as good as Art & Billie, but we'll try. Have a good couple of weeks. See you soon!
• Humility. (9.17.2011)

Life is difficult and complicated and beyond anyone's total control, and the humility to know that will enable you to survive its vicissitudes. ~ J. K. Rowling, Harvard Commencement Address, 2008
• Mira Hotel chef at the breakfast buffet. (Mira Hotel chef. (Yuzhno Sakhalinsk, Russia)
• Former home of Arkady Gaidar, a famous Red commander who helped liquidate White resistance during the Russian Civil War. He later went on to become a famous writer of children's stories. The street is now named after him. (9.11.2011)

Nothing appropriate for this solemn day. We were living in Boston at the time though one needn't be American to have been nor still be overcome with shock & grief about the events of this day. Treasure those you love for we never know what joys or sorrows the day may hold for us.
• Building detail outside what is now the City Café. The commemorative plaque on the wall provides info that the building was built in the 1870's as a rental property. In the 19th & 20th centuries it was a popular restaurant, "The Savoy". Not sure if was THE Savoy during those pre-revolutionary days. (9.10.2011)
Wishing all a good weekend.
• A sorrowful beauty. (Refugee child) (9.9.2011)
Thanks for your comments on yesterday's rocket scientist - it's surprising so many of you had secret aspirations to be rocket scientists. Many of you were interested in how access was obtained to that facility. Fact is, Rustem often has access to such places through his work. I keep saying I should start a blog/journal to provide more insight & info, but no time thus far. I admire all of you who maintain blogs. Have a good Friday.
• A real rocket scientist. (Proton PM Factory, Perm, Russia) Двигателист. (ОАО «Протон-ПМ») (9.8.2011)
• Having one of those 'crisis of confidence' days & just not pleased with any shot. Maybe it's because today's my birthday, maybe it's because it's end of summer & I didn't accomplish what I wanted to do photographically [or otherwise] this summer. For what it's worth, this is the Pskov Kremlin towers on the river, reworked today. (9.7.2011)
• Farm tractor. (Khakassia, Russia)
• Last of the season. (9.4.2011)
• The Devil's Kitchen. Potassium and magnesium salts being processed into fertilizer. (Silvinit Plant, Solikamsk, Russia) (Сильвинит Плант, Соликамск) (9.3.2011)
• Decorating a gun handle at Tula Metal Works. (9.2.2011)
• It's September 1st & throughout Russia & the former USSR, it's the first day of school. It's expected that everyone dress up and bring flowers for their teacher. We have a school behind our apartment building so I stepped out to catch some of the morning's activities. (9.1.2011)
• It's one from the archives today as I've been going through some old shots. This is a scanned photo that I just reprocessed. Not the best shot, but a very interesting place called Matmata in southern Tunisia. About 400 Berber families live underground in these traditional troglodyte dwellings. George Lucas found this somewhat surreal landscape the perfect backdrop for his Star Wars film which the community's quite proud of. (8.30.2011)

• In the workshop of Dymkovo toys. These ceramic figurines have been made for more than 400 years and are extremely popular. From a recent trip to Kirov. Stay dry! For more on these 'toys':
