Project RuSu 365

Not always so successful or interesting, & not always daily, though certainly a reflection of our daily lives - more like pick of the day. Our goal - to share our world and improve our skills. Thanks to all the members of the SmugMug Daily Community for your support and input. Feel free to leave feedback by clicking on 'Add Comment' below. We look forward to hearing your thoughts. The photo of the day will always be in first position. Thank you for looking. - Rustem Safronov & Susan Gilman a.k.a. RuSu. This gallery was started on October 26, 2010.

 • Women worker in the Bishkek market. (11.10.2011)
 • Kyrgyz girl wearing Chanel. (11.9.2011)

O.K., Chanel counterfeits are everywhere in this part of the world, but, in fact there's a sad story which accounts for this girl's solemn look. Fifteen year old Rakhat has been forbidden to attend school for her refusal to remove her hijab. It is not traditional dress for Kyrgyzstan and, like many countries, they're concerned with the rising spread is Islam.
 • Kyrgyz man waiting in line to cast his ballot in last week's presidential election. (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) (11.8.2011)

Know there are a lot of problems with this shot, but thought you might find it interesting.
 • Peppers in the market. (11.7.2011)
 • Renaissance angel on the ceiling of the main chapel in Valencia's Cathedral of the Holy Chalice. The original contract from 1472 required that the angels be, "painted in exquisite colors" - they certainly are. This photo makes me think of my sister who died three years ago. She adored angels. Nothing new, as you can see, but at the encouragement of a few of you, I decided to post this. Thanks for your support. Enjoy your Sunday.
 • It's been an incredibly busy week for both of us with no time to shoot, though I tried my best to keep up with commenting at the start or end of the day. There were some really wonderful shots, as usual, & I apologize if I missed some of yours.

I'm slowly wading through our shots of Spain - seems as if it'll take forever. This shot shows two of the five major structures at Valencia's City of Arts & Sciences, now considered one of the treasures of Spain. Truly phenomenal architecture! The building in the foreground, known as L'Hemisfèric, is a planetarium with an IMAX theatre; while the building in the background, El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, is an opera house & performing arts center. The other buildings & plazas are equally spectacular. (10.29.2011)

Wishing you an enjoyable weekend.
 • Just an old billboard on the side of an apartment building in Valencia. I liked its graphics. (10.25.2011)
 • Detail of Man Ray's, 'Indestructible Object'. (10.23.2011)

Generally I'm not a fan of photos of artwork, but I rather like this. Have a good Sunday.
 • Stained glass window detail in Madrid's Cathedral Santa María la Real de La Almudena. (10.22.2011)

One can't help but be struck by the modernity & intensity of the windows in Madrid's primary cathedral, which took 100 years to complete. I was captivated by the translucence, color, & depth to the Madonna's eyes in this window. (SOOC)

 • Life on the streets. (10.17.2011)
 • 85 Centimos. (10.16.2011)
 • Madrid metro at night. (10.15.2011)

I like how the young man on the left is looking at us while keeping his hand on his girlfriend's tush whereas she's oblivious to everyone/thing but him.

Hope you have a good weekend.
 • The martini: the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet. ~H. L. Mencken (10.14.2011)

A bit of lightheartedness for Friday... Was playing around with this shot yesterday - a billboard ad for handbags which just kind struck me as funny. Very busy today. Hope to catch up this evening. Have a good Friday.
 • Beauty for Ashes. Old gallery notice posted on a wall in Toledo, Spain. (10.13.2011)

Thanks for all your input yesterday. Much appreciated.
 • Watching time passing by in Alicante. (10.12.2011)

Very indecisive today. Couldn't decide whether to go with this or the color version with its European-feeling intense blue wall. If you have a moment, check it out as your thoughts are always appreciated.
Thanks for yesterday's comments.
 • A peak inside a Madrid soup & sandwich shop.
 • People relaxing around the 'dancing fountains' in Alicante's main square. (10.10.2011)

Thanks for yesterday's comments & help with identifying the Heron. Hope your week starts off well.
 • Bird at the Oceanogràfic complex in Valencia's City of Arts & Sciences. Not sure what it is. Perhaps one of you can identify it? (10.9.2011)
 • Hair style is the final tip-off whether or not a woman really knows herself. ~Hubert de Givenchy, Vogue, July 1985 (10.8.2011)

We passed by this salon in the hip neighborhood of Barrio del Carmen in Valencia, Spain and saw this young woman having her hair worked on by two stylists. Couldn't resist a shot.

Yes, we're back in Moscow and just in time to enjoy what's said to be the last nice day of the season. Lots of catching up to do, including with all of you. Enjoy your weekend.
