Russian prianki fresh out of the oven. Often compared to gingerbread, they're more like a dry honey cake as there's no ginger in them. These heart-shaped cakes say, "I give this to the one I love". (5.26.2011)

  • Dinner in a Siberian village - dried fish, caviar, and fried goodies. (Tyumen Oblast)
  • It's all about presentation - dishes at the ready. (Blagoveshchensk, Russia)
  • Some people have Mardi Gras, others have Carnavale. Russia has Maslenitsa, also known as Pancake Week. Originally a pagan festival celebrating the end of winter, today's Maslenitsa is a time of [over] indulgence before the start of Lent, and a celebration of the end of winter. The pancakes (blini in Russian), which are more like crêpes, symbolize the sun. Let's hope they'll be an early end to winter this year. <br />

  • Cooking on the tundra above the Arctic Circle. A woman's work is never done. (Nenets Autonomous District, Russia)
  • Pickled mushroom appetizer.
  • Double lobster special at the Station House. (Lantana, Florida)
  • Salads as many of us know them are relatively new in Russia. Caesar & Greek salads are now on every menu though they're often overflowing with peppers & stale-prepackaged croutons. Some, such as this, go beyond the usual. This baked feta with greens, sun dried tomatoes, sprouts [hope they weren't from Germany], & pomegranate seeds in a pomegranate dressing was spot-on and delicious. (7.1.2011)
  • Apple pie à la mode at the River House. (Jupiter, Florida)
  • Barbecuing steaks on the deck of Holland America's Volendam before dinner.
  • Midnight buffet. (Carnival Liberty cruise to the Caribbean)
  • Montmarte cheese store - delightful smell.
  • Rue Cler cheeses.
