Cynthia Visits Russia

Our dear friend, Cynthia, made the long trip from L.A. in June 2007. She liked it so much, she's thinking of a return visit. Of course, Russia is an incredibly interesting place to visit; to live here, a bit less so. It was a great visit - wonderful having a friend around. More of you should make the trek! Note that the photos here were taken either by Cynthia or by us.

  • We don't "do" the airport, despite the fact that we now have a car, which we didn't at the time of Cynthia's visit. Instead we sent Maxim, a driver, we knew. Stuck in a horrendous traffic jam, it took her 3 hours to reach us. Welcome to Moscow!
  • First stop - where else - Red Square. This was taken at the entrance to the Square with the monoument to General Zhukov in the background.
  • Domes of St. Basil's.
  • St. Basil's Cathedral. It's said that Ivan the Terrible had the architect's eyes poked out upon completion of the Cathedral, so that he could never build anything as beautiful again.
  • Changing of the Guard at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
